Four Live Streams or Four Recordings:
Most professional productions, if not all of them, require a multi-cam setup and directors need a monitor that can handle the workload. The Shogun 7 is capable of streaming four live cameras and users can switch back and forth between the shots to have ultimate creative control on set. Beyond streaming, users can record up to four cameras in full HD 60p via SDI ISOs, and can even tag footage and edit shots on-to-go, and once they drop the footage into their preferred NLE software, the timeline will be filled in with all previous edits — providing a convenient workflow.
All of the built-in features also mean that directors can leave the field audio recorders off-set. The Shogun 7 supports 48v stereo mic audio recording via a balanced XLR input, or 12 digital audio channels via HDMI and SDI. All audio recordings are embedded and stored with the visual recording for easy post-production. The monitor includes a headphone jack to keep an eye on audio levels.
Using the HDMI 2.0, users can record in 4K 60p for superior recording quality. Or if the scene calls for it, users can record in 2K up to 240p for the slow-motion effect. Footage can be tagged and viewed in editing software, including Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer, and Adobe Premiere Pro. Side note: a third party plug-in is required to use this workflow with Premiere.
Dynamic AtomHDR and Dolby Vision:

To create an effective monitor, Atomos put a lot of design time into the display. The 7-inch LCD has 1500nits of brightness and a 1,000,00 : 1 contrast ratio, producing a defined and clear image. The Shogun 7 is crafted with Dynamic AtomHDR — a screen technology that shapes true whites and true blacks for a pleasing HDR picture.
Atomos worked with Dolby Vision to include a Dolby Vision output on the Shogun — now featured on AtomOS 10. When the Shogun is hooked up to a Dolby Vision-compatible TV, the displayed picture will be adjusted to the correct color profile, brightness, contrast, etc. It’s an instant color correction so directors can preview their shots to judge if the image fits their vision.
Unlike previous Atomos monitors, the Shogun 7 can record directly in Apple ProRes RAW, preserving the most picture data. The footage is then ready to be dropped right into Final Cut Pro X — no transcoding required. Other recordable formats include DNxHD for Avid and CinemaDNG for Adobe.
The new Atomos Shogun 7 is available for preorder now for at Adorama.
