Review Summary

Several points: First, I use Tiffen filters for both my UV lens protectors and Graduated and regular ND filters. There is no color distortion that I can detect. This Grad can be handheld in front of the lens if the exposure isn't too long. Second, I use a Zomei ring and Z Holder system for sunrise and sunset shots as the exposure times are longer than I feel comfortable hand holding the filter. Third, this larger filter is really useful for eliminating any shadowing when my zoom wide angle lens is set for focal lengths around 15mm. Although there is more gear to pack in my kit I get much better results than with the circular screw on grad filter. Largely because you have much more flexibility in establishing the horizon line.

It is essential for photographers and cinematographers to manage challenging lighting conditions without compromising on image quality. The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 1.2 Water White Glass Filter offers a professional solution for balancing exposure across your image. Featuring a hard edge and vertical orientation, this filter provides a precise transition between the filtered and clear areas, making it ideal for scenes with a defined horizon line, such as seascapes or urban landscapes.
Crafted from high-quality water white glass, this filter ensures superior clarity and minimal color cast, preserving the natural hues of your scene. The ND 1.2 rating corresponds to a 4-stop reduction in light, allowing for greater control over exposure without altering the color balance of the photograph or footage. This level of density is particularly useful for achieving a correct exposure of both the sky and the foreground in high-contrast situations, ensuring that cloud details are well-preserved and the landscape retains its natural texture and color.
Whether you're dealing with the bright skies of a midday shoot or seeking to create a dramatic effect with a bright horizon, the Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Graduated ND filter is an indispensable tool. It enables photographers and filmmakers to maintain the exposure latitude necessary to capture detail in both the brightest and darkest elements of the scene.
Understanding the nuances of various lighting scenarios is key, and having a selection of graduated ND filters at your disposal can significantly enhance your creative potential. The Tiffen Graduated ND 1.2 filter's hard edge is particularly suited for scenes with a straight horizon, where the stark contrast between land and sky requires a more defined transition. The vertical orientation of the gradient allows for easy alignment with these natural elements, ensuring a seamless blend into the scene.
In summary, the Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Graduated ND 1.2 Water White Glass Filter with a hard edge and vertical orientation is an essential piece of equipment for any serious photographer or videographer looking to achieve balanced exposures in challenging lighting conditions without sacrificing color fidelity or image sharpness.
