Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

The Tokina PRO IRND 0.3 Filter - 1 Stop is a meticulously engineered combination of IR and ND filter, designed to meet the needs of high-end cinema cameras. These advanced cameras, in their quest to mimic the human eye, often lack a built-in low-pass or IR cut filter. This absence can lead to issues with light sensitivity and exposure, necessitating the use of a stronger ND filter and consequently, the risk of infrared pollution.
The Tokina PRO IRND 0.3 Filter - 1 Stop is the solution to this problem. It's a product of the innovative Accu-ND Technology from the development team at Kenko Tokina. This technology enables the creation of a Neutral Density filter that precisely regulates the amount of light entering the lens without impacting the color. It's a revolutionary tool that ensures consistent color transmittance across the visible spectrum.
Unlike many IRND filters in the market, the Tokina PRO IRND 0.3 Filter - 1 Stop doesn't come with the common side effects such as color shifting. It eliminates the need for constant white balance adjustments during a shoot and subsequent color corrections in post-production, making it a more efficient choice for cinematographers.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, the round PRO IRND filter features an ND vapor deposition coating on both sides of the glass. This design results in a high precision, truly neutral filter. The square/rectangular variant has an ND vapor deposition coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing in case of scratches and extending the filter's lifespan.
The Tokina PRO IRND 0.3 Filter - 1 Stop employs a unique manufacturing process that controls, rather than cuts, the infrared up to 1200nm. This method of suppression effectively eliminates infrared pollution without the risk of unwanted color shifts often associated with the cutting method. This makes the Tokina PRO IRND 0.3 Filter - 1 Stop a superior choice for professional cinematography.
