Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

With the Tokina 86mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.5 Filter - 5 Stops, you can effectively manage light exposure and eliminate infrared pollution in your cinematography and photography projects. This high-quality filter is a must-have tool for users of high-end cinema cameras, which often lack built-in low-pass or IR cut filters in order to mimic the human eye and capture as much image data as possible.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter, designed with the innovative Accu-ND Technology from the development team at Kenko Tokina, offers a solution to the common issue of infrared pollution. This occurs when more sensitive cameras require stronger ND filters to maintain exposure, leading to color shifting and the need for constant white balance adjustments.
This versatile filter precisely controls the amount of light entering the lens without affecting color, thanks to its Neutral Density feature. It stabilizes color transmittance throughout the visible spectrum, ensuring true color fidelity in your shots.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, the Tokina PRO IRND filter is designed for durability and longevity. The round filter features an ND vapor deposition coating on both sides of the glass, creating a truly neutral, high-precision filter. The square/rectangular filter, on the other hand, has an ND vapor deposition coating sandwiched between two layers of glass. This allows for the filter to be re-polished repeatedly if scratched, extending its lifespan.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut near infrared from a specific wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter uses suppression to eliminate infrared pollution up to 1200nm. This method is less prone to producing unwanted color shifts, making the Tokina PRO IRND filter an effective and reliable choice for professional photographers and cinematographers.
