Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

A superior choice for professional cinematographers, the 127mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.5 Filter - 5 Stops by Tokina is expertly designed to combat the common issue of infrared pollution. This innovative filter is a must-have for users of high-end cinema cameras, which often lack built-in low-pass or IR cut filters in order to mimic the human eye and capture maximum image data.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter employs advanced Accu-ND Technology, a groundbreaking feature developed by the expert team at Kenko Tokina. This technology enables the filter to precisely control the amount of light entering the lens without any impact on color, ensuring a truly neutral density filter that stabilizes color transmittance across the visible spectrum.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, the Tokina PRO IRND filter showcases a high-precision ND vapor deposition coating. For the round filter, this coating is applied on both sides of the glass, while the square/rectangular filter features the coating sandwiched between two layers of glass. This unique design allows for the filter to be re-polished multiple times if scratched, significantly extending its lifespan.
Unlike many IRND filters on the market that cut the near infrared from a specific wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter utilizes a suppression method to eliminate infrared pollution up to 1200nm. This approach is less likely to produce unwanted color shifts, making it a more reliable choice for maintaining true color fidelity during a shoot and reducing the need for post-production color corrections.
In summary, the 127mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.5 Filter - 5 Stops by Tokina is a revolutionary tool that combines superior technology and practical design to deliver exceptional results for professional cinematography.
