Questions & Answers

LAGUNA WOODS C : WILL THIS INK WORK ON THE 4800 STYLUS PRO?
Shopper : Are these archival quality inks? What are their expected durability?JERRY B : Yes they are arcivable. durability is more a function of the paper that you use than the ink. I love my 7900. The inks are just brighter. Epson Super gloss gives you the brightest picture.NICK B : I have noticed that they have a used by date on them or expiration date. I have never seen a drop in quality in prints when used past that time frame on the box. I have had some inks almost 2 years old and have never had a issue. I would recommend if you print on a regular basis going with a larger cartridge like a 350ml or even a 700ml.ALLEN S : These are pigment based inks, which are rated to last longer than dye based inks. With proper care, the should last 150 plus years. However, hanging prints in a location where they receive direct sunlight for long periods of time will shorten the life of any photo. Obviously, I haven't hung photos using these inks for anything close to 150 years, but I've seen no evidence of deterioration.
Shopper : what is the yield on this?NICK B : What Patrick said!PATRICK D : That's a loaded question. It depends on the image you're printing, the paper/ papers you're printing on. And how efficient you are. If you're only printing one image a day, you'll need head cleaning more often and are going to dump more ink in the cleaning process. The best answer is determined through your own trial and errorARBOR PAK M : We don't know either. It depends on the type of job.

Great ink.

Of course, it's the only game in town. The ink looks and works great. Be aware that there is an oily carrier that goes on the print which evaporates over time. I haven't seen a problem with non-RC papers. Apparently the stuff soaks into the paper where it does no harm. But with RC papers it can't absorb, and so it winds up on the back of the glass of framed prints. I have managed to mitigate the problem somewhat by covering RC papers with newsprint which seems to absorb much of the oil. It's an incomplete fix, but it seems to help.

Great ink

Epson Ultrachrom HDR ink is fantastic. Very vibrant colors, very long lifetime, and it's a prefect match for the Epson printers. Accept no substitute! It does have one problem... If you print on RC materials the ink outgasses some kind of oily film onto the back of glass over time. It's nasty and you can see it on framed prints. I sandwich RC prints between sheets of newsprint for at least 24 hours - longer if possible, and that helps.

When it comes to professional-grade printing, the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 (24-inch) and Stylus Pro 9900 (44-inch) stand out as Epson's premier ten-color printers, powered by the innovative Epson UltraChrome HDR (High Dynamic Range) ink technology. This advanced ink set, featuring a unique blend of orange and green, significantly broadens the color spectrum, enhancing digital printing capabilities for both package and remote proofing market segments.

Epson's UltraChrome HDR ink is a high-density resin-coated pigment ink formulation that includes a three-level black ink technology - photo black, light black, and light light black. In addition, it incorporates cyan, light cyan, vivid magenta, vivid light magenta, yellow, orange, and green. An on-board matte black is also included, which can be automatically switched with photo black.

This latest iteration of UltraChrome HDR ink delivers a multitude of benefits. Expect reduced graininess in skin tone areas, smoother tonal gradation from shadows to highlights, and excellent short-term color stability. It also offers outstanding long-term lightfastness, highly accurate color control with neutral black and white, and high gloss levels on water-resistant prints.

Economical benefits are also a key feature of this product. The introduction of two high-capacity ink cartridges (350 and 700ml) contributes to a lower cost per milliliter of ink. These high-capacity cartridges also reduce the frequency of cartridge replacements, promoting greater unattended printing.

The Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900 are equipped with Epson's MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) print head, featuring 360 nozzles per inch for each of the ten active ink cartridges. This, combined with Epson's Ink Repelling Coating for the print head and Automatic Ink Detection (AID) system, helps to minimize downtime by preemptively detecting and addressing nozzle clogging, thereby eliminating paper waste during the cleaning process.

Epson's AID technology employs a sensor near the print head that monitors the electrical charges on the ink droplets as they are fired. A lower than expected electrical charge indicates insufficient ink was fired, triggering the print head cleaning process automatically.

Compared to current 8-color 24-inch and 44-inch printers, the print speed of the Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900 is significantly increased. For instance, the Stylus Pro 7900 can complete an A1 (720x720dpi) sellable quality print on Epson's Premium Glossy Photo Paper in an impressive 5 minutes. This makes these printers an ideal choice for those seeking efficiency and quality in their printing tasks.
