Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

Overcome the challenges of high-sensitivity cinematography with the Tokina 105mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.8 Filter, a high-quality solution designed to maintain impeccable image quality while managing light exposure. Modern cinema cameras, built to capture as much visual information as possible, often lack built-in low-pass or IR cut filters. This sensitivity to light necessitates the use of a strong ND filter, which can introduce infrared pollution, affecting the integrity of your footage.
The Tokina Cinema PRO IRND filter, with its innovative Accu-ND Technology, is engineered to provide a precise six-stop reduction in light entry without compromising color accuracy. This effective filter ensures a stable color transmittance across the entire visible spectrum, eliminating the common issue of color shifting associated with many IRND filters on the market.
Durability is a hallmark of this filter, with the round version featuring an ND vapor deposition coating on both sides of the glass for high precision and neutrality. The square/rectangular variant boasts a coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing and extending the filter's lifespan, making it a versatile choice for filmmakers who demand longevity from their gear.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut near-infrared at a specific wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND utilizes suppression technology to control infrared light up to 1200nm. This innovative approach ensures the elimination of infrared pollution without the risk of unwanted color shifts that can occur with other filters.
Choose the Tokina 105mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.8 Filter for its effective six-stop light reduction, high-quality construction, and innovative technology that preserves true color fidelity. With a solid 4.0 out of 5-star rating and the backing of Tokina's reputable brand name, this filter stands out as a reliable choice for professionals seeking to enhance their low-light cinematography without the hassle of continual white balance adjustments and post-production color corrections.
